After an audit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it turned out that there is currently no need to mobilise 500,000 people. This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi in an interview with Ukrinform, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, the figure of 500,000 required mobilisers has been significantly reduced.
“After reviewing our internal resources and clarifying the combat composition of the Armed Forces, this figure has been significantly reduced. We expect that we will have enough people capable of defending our homeland. We are talking not only about the mobilised, but also about volunteers… We are currently reviewing the number of certain units that do not take part in combat operations based on an audit of their activities. This allowed us to release thousands of servicemen and send them to combat units,”
– syrskyi said.
At the same time, he noted that Russia is currently waging a war of attrition against Ukraine, so rear units are no less important for assessing the combat capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“The war we are forced to wage against the Russian invaders is a war of attrition, a war of logistics. Therefore, the importance of the effectiveness of rear units cannot be underestimated. We are talking about the system of supplying troops with food and ammunition, repair units, medical facilities and much more. These people contribute to the effectiveness of combat operations,”
– said the Commander-in-Chief.
He added that mobilised citizens usually do not go straight to the frontline. According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, 84% of those mobilised undergo special training before being sent to the front.
