Donald Trump, who is the only remaining Republican candidate in the upcoming US presidential election, is demanding a debate with the current head of state, Joe Biden. Bloomberg reports, according to Kommersant Ukrainian
Trump released a statement on his own internet platform Truth Social.
“For the good of the country, Biden and I must discuss vital issues for America. That’s why I’m calling for a debate – anytime, anywhere, anyplace!”
– he said in a statement.
Throughout this election campaign, Trump has been trying hard to avoid debates with his fellow party rivals.
The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has already announced the dates for three debates in September and October and a single debate for the vice presidential candidates.
Biden and Trump debated each other twice in 2020. One forum was cancelled because Trump was diagnosed with coronavirus.
Trump’s announcement came just hours after Nikki Haley announced that she was dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination. Haley’s decision is a consequence of the results of the Super Tuesday primaries. She managed to win only in the state of Vermont, while Trump triumphed in all other votes and almost reached the number of delegates required for the final victory.
Joe Biden also received overwhelming support on Super Tuesday.
US elections
The US presidential election will be held on 5 November 2024. This will be the 60th presidential election in America.
They are preceded by primaries, which are the elections whose winners will compete for the presidency.
In the next election, voters will elect the electoral college, which will elect a new US president and vice president in 41 days, in December 2024.
Elections to both houses of Congress will also be held: The House of Representatives and one third of the Senate.
Who will run for the US presidency
The main candidates for the US presidency are Joe Biden and Donald Trump. All others are still on the sidelines of the active process.
US President Joe Biden enjoys less support from voters in at least seven states than his likely rival in the election, former President Donald Trump.
An opinion poll showed that Trump is currently ahead of Biden in seven key states – Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, and Wisconsin.
In total, 48% of voters there said they would support Trump, and 43% said they would support Biden.
At the same time, a large proportion of respondents said that Trump was dangerous, and a significant percentage expressed concern about Biden’s age. Eight out of 10 voters in key states said that 81-year-old Biden is too old for the job. At the same time, less than half of respondents believe that 77-year-old Donald Trump is too old for the presidency.
Biden recently underwent an annual physical examination, which confirmed that he is fit to perform his duties. The president is feeling well, and this year’s physical revealed no new problems. He continues to be fit for duty and fully performs all of his duties without any exceptions or accommodations.
