Ukraine reached a record high in the Corruption Perceptions Index in 2023, according to with reference to the Index data published by Transparency International.
Last year, our country received 36 points out of 100 possible and ranked 104 out of 180 countries in the Index (the first place is the least tolerant country to corruption). Over the course of the year, Ukraine showed an increase of 3 points, which is one of the best results in the world. Thus, Ukraine repeated its progress in 2020, when it also gained 3 points more compared to the previous year.
Algeria, Brazil, and Serbia have the same score as Ukraine, with 36 points each. Albania, Argentina, Belarus, Gambia, Ethiopia, and Zambia earned one point more. Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Nepal, Panama, Sierra Leone, Thailand, and Panama have a point less than Ukraine.
Among the EU candidate countries, Ukraine is not among the leaders. It is ahead of Georgia, Montenegro, Moldova, North Macedonia and Albania. Only Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey are behind us.
Since 2014, Ukraine has gained 10 points in the ranking and has shown gradual but steady progress.
The Index leaders are Denmark (1st place and 90 points), Finland (2nd place and 87 points) and New Zealand (3rd place, 85 points).
The Corruption Perceptions Index is an authoritative ranking of countries in terms of the level of corruption and tolerance to it. It is compiled annually by the international non-governmental organisation Transparency International.
