The Legal Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) did not recognise the legitimacy of Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting on 15 April. This was announced on Telegram by Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, who chairs the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“PACE appeals to the member states of the Council of Europe, observer countries, that is, the United States and others, to the European Union to stop all contacts with the Putin government, except for humanitarian ones,”
– Goncharenko wrote.
According to him, the committee called the Russian “elections” held in March “so-called”. And instead of “far from fair and just”, they called them dishonest and unfair.
It should be noted that in October 2023, the PACE recognised Russia as a dictatorship. The Assembly also called on all Council of Europe states not to recognise the legitimacy of President Vladimir Putin after his current term in office.
