NATO countries have not provided Ukraine with the promised military assistance in recent months. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, according to Komersant ukrainskyi
“Let’s be honest. In recent months, NATO allies have not provided Ukraine with the assistance they promised. Now we must turn those commitments into real deliveries of weapons and ammunition, and we must do it quickly. It’s not too late for Ukraine to win, as there is more and more support on the way,”
– stoltenberg said.
In particular, the NATO Secretary General was referring to the long approval of a new aid package for Ukraine from the United States and the promised ammunition from the European Union. As a reminder, in early February, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, promised that Ukraine would receive 1,155,000 rounds of ammunition from the EU by the end of the year. on 18 April, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the ammunition had not reached Ukraine.
“Unfortunately, we have not yet seen a million artillery shells from the European Union, which have been talked about so much.” In addition, some other initiatives have not yet been fully implemented, and this primarily affects what our soldiers can use at the front and what they will unfortunately have to wait for. I ask you to accelerate the implementation of our agreements with you – both on the supply and joint production of weapons and ammunition, as well as on the financing of relevant projects,”
– the President addressed his European partners.
As a reminder, on 24 April, President Biden signed into law a $60.8 billion aid bill for Ukraine passed by Congress. The United States immediately announced a $1 billion aid package for Ukraine.
In particular, it included RIM-7 and AIM-9M missiles for air defence systems; Stinger anti-aircraft missiles; small arms and ammunition, including .50 calibre ammunition to combat drones; ammunition for HIMARS; 155 mm artillery ammunition; Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and other equipment.
The United States is currently preparing one of the largest aid packages worth $6 billion.
