Anatoliy Bargylevych became the new chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Serhii Shaptala held this position before him. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this in a video message, reports
“On the proposal of Chief of Staff Oleksandr Syrskyi, he appointed Major General Anatoliy Barhylevych as the new chief of the General Staff. He is an experienced person who understands the tasks of this war and Ukrainian goals.”

According to Zelenskyi, Syrskyi has determined the candidacies of his deputies. Deputy chiefs of the General Staff have also been determined.
“And I will sign the relevant decrees. All the guys are combative, professional, each one with a clear knowledge of the front and the real needs of Ukrainian soldiers.”

It should be noted that before this Barhylevych headed the Territorial Defense Forces.
Who is Barhylevych?
Anatoliy Bargylevych was born in the village of Omelyanivka, Zhytomyr Region, on April 8, 1969. He is now 54 years old.
He received his higher education at the National Defense University of Ukraine named after Ivan Chernyakhovsky.
In 2017, he received the rank of major general. Since 2020, he has worked as the deputy commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for territorial defense.
In 2014, Barhylevych held the position of head of the operational training department of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff. Later, he served in the headquarters of the Anti-Terrorist Operation.
In 2016, Barhylevych was appointed the head of the operational department of the command of the Ground Forces, where he was responsible for the development of territorial defense.
In the period from 2020 to 2022, the major general performed the duties of the deputy commander of the Ground Forces – the commander of the Territorial Defense Command. In 2022-2023, he served as chief of staff of the “Khortytsia” OSU. The commander of this group was Syrsky before his appointment as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.
In October 2023, Barhylevych was appointed commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
