The Ukrainian national football team defeated Iceland in the play-off final yesterday and won the right to play in the European Football Championship, which will be held in Germany from 14 June to 14 July 2024. For reaching the final tournament, the Ukrainian Football Association will receive a considerable amount of money, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to the prices on the UEFA website, UEFA will pay each national association €9.25 million for participation in the European Championship. The UAF will receive this amount even if the national team loses all three matches in its group and is eliminated from the tournament immediately. And if you play successfully, you can earn a little more. The price list from UEFA looks like this:
- participation in the championship: 9.25 million euros;
- match bonuses: €1 million for a win and €500 thousand for a draw;
- qualification for the 1/8 finals: 1.5 million euros;
- qualification for the quarter-finals: €2.5m;
- qualification for the semi-finals: 4 million euros;
- finalists will receive a supplement of €5 million;
- the 2024 European champion will receive an additional €8 million.
Thus, the maximum amount that a champion team can receive if it wins all three group matches is €28.25 million.
At Euro 2024, Ukraine will play in a group with Belgium, Romania and Slovakia. Only Belgium, ranked 4th, is ahead of Ukraine in the FIFA World Team Rankings, which is ranked 24th. Romania is in 45th place and Slovakia is in 48th place.
Bookmakers consider the Ukrainian national team to be one of the championship’s outsiders, with odds of 101 on its victory. This means that if the national team wins the championship, the player who bet on it will receive 101 times the amount of the bet.
However, it is the Romanian and Slovak national teams from our group that are considered even bigger outsiders than Ukraine.
The Ukrainian national team will play its matches at Euro 2024 on 17, 21 and 26 June against Romania, Slovakia and Belgium respectively. Before that, in early June, Ukraine will play three friendly matches against Germany, Poland and Moldova.
