At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the Iranian massive attack, Israel’s Permanent Representative to the UN Gilad Erdan called on countries to heed the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the threat of Iran and Russia’s actions to the world, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
During his speech, Erdan compared the current Islamic regime in Tehran to the Third Reich, adding that Ayatollah Khamenei is no different from Adolf Hitler.
The Israeli representative to the UN noted that Iran is actively developing nuclear weapons and working on intercontinental ballistic missiles, so there is a potential threat from the use of such weapons to the whole world.
Erdan also recalled that a significant number of Ukrainian civilians have been killed as a result of regular air attacks by Russia, including through Shahedi attack drones that Tehran has given to Moscow.
“President Zelenskyy, when he condemned Iran’s attack, said that Iranian drones are an instrument of terror, whether in the skies over the Middle East or Europe. And the sound of these drones should be a wake-up call for the free world,”
– said the head of the Israeli delegation.
Erdan called on the UN Security Council to heed the words of the President of Ukraine and “wake up” to this wake-up call.
The Israeli representative stressed that Iran’s strategy is to arm, finance and train terrorist groups around the world to implement its own plans for world domination.
The diplomat added that Iran remains the world’s number one sponsor of terror and seeks to destabilise the region and the world.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Iran’s attack on Israel on the night of 14 April, which used “shahids” as well as ballistic and cruise missiles. He said that Ukraine is well aware of “the horror of similar attacks by Russia, which uses the same Shahed drones and Russian missiles, the same tactics of massive air strikes”.
It should be added that Israeli Defence Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said that Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones at Israel on the night of 14 April, 99% of which were intercepted by air defence forces.
U.S. President Joe Biden condemned Iran and its proxies in other countries and said that on Sunday he would discuss a joint response to Tehran’s actions with G7 leaders.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned Iran’s actions in attacking Israel, warning against large-scale clashes in the Middle East.
