A preliminary review of the damage to DniproHES shows that it will take years to fully restore the plant. Ihor Syrota, CEO of Ukrhydroenergo, said this on Espresso TV, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
The official spoke about the damage caused by the Russian strike and the scale of the work that needs to be done:
“There are a lot of hits to the units themselves, equipment has been burnt. There are units that need to be manufactured completely from scratch, which takes 18 to 24 months. In addition, dismantling and reassembly takes time. We will need to completely rebuild the machine room, i.e. build a new machine room. And we will also see what is happening on the 4 floors below the station, where the depth is 25-30 metres, but this is after the rubble has been cleared.”
According to him, the restoration will take years.
“I think we will be able to dismantle all the rubble within a week, and then we will be able to talk about the consequences in more detail. In 10 days we will be able to give a rough estimate of the cost of what is needed. As of today, a cursory inspection makes it clear that it will take years to restore the site to the state of the design solution. We will not be able to restore this plant quickly,”
– said Syrota.
He noted that six Russian missiles flew into DniproHES. In addition to the plant itself, the surrounding area was damaged, including the roadway and some other facilities, which also affects the operation of the plant.
on 22 March, Russia carried out the most massive combined shelling of Ukrainian cities and facilities. In particular, DniproHES and other Ukrainian energy facilities were hit.
