Foreign Ministry spokesman Pavel Vronsky told reporters that Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev did not come to the Foreign Ministry headquarters to explain the incident with the Russian cruise missile that violated Polish airspace.
The Russian Embassy informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a technical note that he would not be in the country from 26 March to 4 April.
In turn, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the Russian ambassador had not been expelled or asked to resign.
“Ambassador Andreev himself has shown his culture and professionalism. As far as I have heard, he has already left our territory,”
– said the Polish minister.
Poland promises to respond to Russia in the near future for violating the country’s airspace and the actions of the Russian ambassador, who refused to come to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw in connection with the incident.
On the morning of 24 March, when Russia was once again shelling Ukraine, one of Russia’s cruise missiles violated Polish airspace. Warsaw used its military aircraft.
The missile entered Polish airspace near the town of Ocerdow (Lublin Voivodeship) and stayed there for 39 seconds. The object was monitored by military radars throughout the flight.
The Polish command says it took all the necessary procedures to secure its airspace, including the deployment of Polish and allied aircraft.
