The IAEA has not recorded any new provocations at Zaporizhzhya NPP, but “the situation remains unpredictable”. This is reported by the Agency’s press service, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“We are not aware of any drone attacks since the incident was reported a week ago, and this is encouraging. However, we know from experience that the situation can deteriorate sharply at any time. The situation remains highly unpredictable,”
– said Mr Grossi.
He stressed that the IAEA experts working at the NPP hear artillery shelling at different distances from the plant every day.
It is noted that the IAEA experts visited a training centre located near the perimeter of the ZNPP site, which was previously attacked by drones, but the occupiers did not allow the specialists to the roof again.
The IAEA teams present at Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, South Ukraine and Chornobyl NPPs reported that nuclear safety is being maintained despite the effects of the war, including air alerts for several days over the past week.
Since the beginning of the Russian occupation, Zaporizhzhia NPP has experienced eight full blackouts and one partial blackout, with emergency diesel generators and safety systems being launched. According to Energoatom, their failure threatens to cause an emergency. The last time the plant faced the threat of a blackout was on 22 March this year after Russia’s massive shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities.
