Former world light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) has announced that he will fight interim WBC second middleweight David Benavidez on 22 June
he will fight against interim WBC middleweight champion David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
The Ukrainian boxer will take to the ring as part of a boxing event in Houston on 22 June. The championship belt held by the American will be at stake.
If he wins, the Ukrainian will be eligible for a mandatory bout with the organisation’s regular champion, Russian Artur Beterbiev, who won the belt when he defeated Gvozdyk in 2019.
The main event of the evening will be a lightweight fight between Jervonta Davis and Frank Martin.
Earlier, the media reported that a boxing show featuring Hvozdyk will take place on 15 June in Las Vegas.

Oleksandr Hvozdyk is a Ukrainian professional boxer in the light heavyweight division (up to 79.4 kg), WBC world champion (2018-2019), Olympic bronze medallist (2012), Summer Universiade champion (2013), World University Champion (2008), European Cup winner (2010), multiple champion of Ukraine. Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine.
In 2018, after defeating Adonis Stevenson, he became a world champion and held the WBC belt until his defeat by Beterbiev in 2019.
The Ukrainian then retired and returned to the ring last year, after which he won three fights in a row.
