Usyk vs Fury postponed: what’s the reason?

The fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury for the four major world heavyweight titles will not take place on the scheduled date of 17 February. It is reported by with reference to BoxingScene.
Turki Al Al-Sheikh, head of the Saudi General Authority for Entertainment, said the decision was made after Fury suffered a cut above his right eye during training.
“The boxing event scheduled for 17 February in the capital will be postponed to a later date and the tickets will be refunded to the public,” he said,
– the official said.
According to him, an understanding of Fury’s recovery time will emerge after a detailed examination by the medical team.
“A disappointed Fury shared his feelings, expressing his devastation at the setback after months of sacrificial training during which he had gained superb physical fitness. He apologised to all those affected by the incident, including his own team, Usyk’s team, the undercard fighters, the fans and the welcoming partners from Riyadh,”

Usyk’s team reacted to the injury with restraint. The Ukrainian’s entourage suggested an emergency organisation of a title fight for their client. The most likely opponent is the mandatory challenger for the IBF belt, Filip Hrgovic from Croatia.
What happened to Tyson Fury
Queensberry Promotions, the promotional company representing Fury, reported that on 2 February, the Briton suffered a cut above his eye during a sparring session. Fury was stitched up, which will prevent him from preparing for the fight in February.

Earlier, Usyk and Fury had been agreeing on a fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion for a very long time.
But on 16 November 2023, they managed to reach an agreement. The fight was scheduled for 17 February 2024.
