Denmark ready to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine

Denmark is ready to send its peacekeeping forces to Ukraine if it is necessary to achieve a ceasefire or a peace agreement, the Danish broadcaster DR has reported.

According to Danish Foreign Minister Lars Luecke Rasmussen, cited by the media, his country supports in principle the idea of providing a military presence to contribute to stability in Ukraine if it becomes necessary.
«It is important that we in Europe send the right signals to both [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and Washington. That’s what we are doing today, saying, ‘If it comes to a point where a European presence is needed for a ceasefire or a peace agreement, Denmark is generally ready for that,'» the official said.
However, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen clarified that there are no real plans to send troops to Ukraine right now.
«We have not decided on any specific actions. It has to depend on the development of events. Therefore, this is a manifestation of timely assistance,» — emphasized the Minister.
Recall that at the Paris summit on February 18, which was held at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said: she is «open to discuss many different things», including the deployment of troops in Ukraine.
What is known about peacekeepers for Ukraine
On February 18, during an emergency summit of leaders in Paris, French President Macron proposed to deploy European peacekeeping forces behind the future border line rather than directly on it.
Italy, Great Britain, Latvia, Germany, Canada, Australia and Italy have previously announced their readiness to send peacekeeping units to Ukraine. Romania offered to become a transit point for peacekeeping troops. On the other hand, Poland immediately said that it had no plans to send its troops to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the deployment of troops of European partners in Ukraine could become one of the most effective means of putting pressure on Russia to achieve peace. At the same time, he noted that the peacekeeping mission should not replace Ukraine’s membership in NATO.
It is known that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to present US President Donald Trump with a peacekeeping plan that envisages the deployment of 30,000 European troops in Ukraine.
