Military expert Oleksiy Hetman said that the liberation of Crimea may be easier than the de-occupation of other territories, analysing the situation from a military point of view.
The expert emphasises that Crimea is an almost isolated territory, which limits the possibility of supplying everything necessary to support the Russian military there.
“Crimea has three main logistical routes: the road to Dzhankoy, the Kerch Bridge and the Kerch Ferry. Despite their capacity, these routes are significantly limited compared to the supply capabilities of the Russian Federation at the front. On the eastern front, Russian troops have an extensive system of roads, railways and motorways, which allows them to supply small batches to different locations simultaneously,” said Hetman.
According to him, in order to supply all Russian units in Crimea, it is necessary to deliver large batches through the “narrow neck”. This will make defence much more difficult for the Russian military.
The expert shares the opinion of his colleagues about the concentration of Russian forces on the front line.
“Russia has concentrated a significant amount of manpower and equipment on our frontline and continues to increase this number, despite the losses. They are replenishing their forces more than they are losing, and are trying to bring their number to 700,000.”
The expert reminds that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly warned of possible major offensives in the spring and summer of this year after meetings with the military leadership and intelligence. The President also noted that in some areas of the frontline, Ukrainian troops would have to retreat, which, according to the expert, is a common tactic during defensive battles.
Oleksiy Hetman summed up his conclusions with the following words: “The liberation of Crimea, given the logistical constraints for Russian troops, is easier to implement than it might seem at first glance.”
