Made of Ukrainian steel: Everton’s new stadium is getting ready to open

30 April 08:49

metinvest Group’s Spartan UK hot-rolled steel produced in Ukraine was used in the construction of Everton Football Club’s new stadium. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian company, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

It is noted that the “no-blockwork” strategy was applied during the construction of the stadium. It stipulates that each structural element had to be carefully planned to ensure the accuracy of the installation of steel structures without the use of traditional brickwork.

This approach required high-quality materials and efficient project execution, and Metinvest Group’s Spartan UK hot-rolled steel sheets played a key role in this.

What we know about Everton Football Club and its new stadium

“Everton is a football club from Liverpool that plays in the English Premier League and is one of its founders. The club itself was founded back in 1878. Ukrainian defender Vitaliy Mykolenko plays for Everton.

In September 2024, American billionaire Dan Friedkin bought Everton Football Club. As of January 2024, Everton’s value, including debts, was estimated at $632 million, Football Benchmark writes. Everton ranks 25th in the ranking of European football clubs.

Everton plays its home games at the 39,000-seat Goodison Park stadium, which is not much younger than the football club itself.

Of course, the building has been reconstructed several times over the past 130 years, but it was still obsolete. And after the decision of the British government to rebuild all stadiums exclusively with seats (previously there were stands for standing fans), the sports arena could no longer accommodate all the fans.

In 2017, Everton announced plans to build a new stadium in the Bramley Moore Docks area. Two years later, the project of the building was presented, and in February 2025, the new football pearl of Liverpool with 53 thousand seats, called Bramley Moore Dock, has already received its first fans. It happened on February 17, 2025, when spectators filled one of the stands behind the gates to test the load on the structure. On the football field, juniors played a sparring match: Everton U-18 and Wigan U-18.

The official opening of the new stadium is scheduled for the summer of 2025.

What else is made of steel by Metinvest Group

Metinvest is not just a Liverpool stadium company. The main sports arena of Ukraine, the NSC Olimpiyskiy, was also built from its steel.

Recently, two polar-class ships were launched in Italy, also made of steel from Metinvest. The twin ships are polar-class expedition ships Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit, equipped with modern equipment and technologies and capable of traveling to the Arctic and Antarctic in the fall and summer seasons.

The hull of the future flagship of the Ukrainian Navy, the Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette, is also made of steel that was produced at Metinvest Group’s Azovstal before the full-scale war

When the corvette was laid down in September 2021 at the Turkish shipyard RMK Marine Shipyard, no one could have guessed that in six months its hull metal would become exclusive. At that time, Metinvest supplied 1,000 tons of hot-rolled plates for the corvette. Part of the batch was brought directly from Mariupol (MMKI steel), and the other part was brought from Metinvest Trametal in Italy, where the rolled products were made from Azovstal slabs

Metinvest-SMC also supplied 3,200 tons of rolled steel plates for the construction of a road bridge on the Desna River near Chernihiv, which was destroyed by the Russian enemy at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
