Zelensky dismisses the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Major General Andriy Hnatov from the post of commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The corresponding decree No. 148/2025 was published on February 26, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
“To dismiss Andriy Viktorovych Hnatov from the post of Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the document says.
The reasons have not been officially disclosed.

It should be added that Andriy Hnatov was appointed to the post on June 24, 2024, replacing the Hero of Ukraine, General Yuriy Sodol.
Also, on January 26, Zelenskyy reported that he hadappointed Major General Hnatov to the General Staff as Deputy Chief of the General Staff.
“His task is a new level of training of operational headquarters and a higher quality of interaction between the headquarters and the front,” the president said.
What is known about Andriy Hnatov
Andriy Hnatov graduated from the Kharkiv Institute of Tank Troops in 2001.
From 2016 to 2018, he was the head of the headquarters of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade. From 2018 to 2021, he commanded the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Belinsky.
In 2022 , he headed the headquarters and became the Deputy Commander of the troops of the Operational Command “South” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In June 2022, he received the rank of brigadier general and a chevron personally from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
In 2022, he succeeded General Dmytro Marchenko as head of the defense of Mykolaiv. In November 2022, he became one of the commanders of the liberation of the Kherson region.
Inthe spring of 2023, he was the head of the defense of Bakhmut. Before joining the JFO “South”, he headed the 36th Marine Brigade, which was formed from units originally from Crimea. Hnatov himself also served on the peninsula before its occupation by Russia.
He was awarded the Cross of Military Merit.
