Zelensky: Ukraine’s loss of US support threatens to split NATO
29 January 09:23
Delaying the process of supporting Ukraine in the United States will have an impact on the entire united Europe and threaten NATO’s unity. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with the German TV channel ARD, reports
Without American support, Europe will not be able to help Ukraine at a sufficient level to deter Russian aggression, Zelenskyy said.
“Europe alone will not be able to cope at the level at which Ukraine has received support before. Neither with weapons nor with finance. Probably, if the whole of Europe were united, it would be able to provide sufficient support to Ukraine, but the United States has such an influence: when the signals are not very positive, they have the same influence on some European leaders,”
– said the President of Ukraine.
Moreover, Zelenskyy believes that not only Ukraine will face problems after this. The very unity of NATO will be under threat.
“I think the alliance between the US and Europe will be lost. Europe itself will understand that if Ukraine fails and Putin moves forward, this is a signal from the United States that Europe will be left alone among NATO countries to confront Russia. This will be a serious threat. Putin will take advantage of this, 100%. And it will be a signal that NATO will not be as strong,” he said,
– he said.
According to him, some NATO countries have serious economic ties with Russia, and a split in the Alliance will be a signal to them that it is possible to cooperate with Russia. Therefore, the President of Ukraine believes that these processes can be called a redistribution of the world.
“Festival of security agreements”
Against the backdrop of disappointing news about the lack of a solution for immediate assistance from our partners, the “Festival of Security Agreements with Ukraine” is gaining momentum, with Western countries guaranteeing us security under bilateral agreements such as the Budapest Memorandum. The next bilateral security agreement Ukraine will sign after the agreement with the UK may be with Canada. In addition, Ukraine is negotiating relevant agreements with five other countries: The United States, France, Germany, Poland, and Italy. In particular, the United States Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, said that two rounds of talks had already taken place between Ukraine and the United States on the content and content of the relevant agreement with the US government. And French President Macron said he would personally come to Kyiv to finalise the security agreement between Ukraine and France.
Ukraine is desperately trying to enlist the support of the world. In particular, the following 5 points of the Ukrainian Peace Formula were presented in Davos. At the previous consultations in Malta, the first five points of the Peace Formula were considered, which included nuclear and food security, the release of prisoners, and the restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty. In Davos, an additional five points were presented: the withdrawal of Russian troops and the cessation of hostilities, the restoration of justice, environmental security, the prevention of escalation and recurrence of war, and the issue of confirming the end of the war.
