Zelensky established SBI Day: a new professional holiday in the calendar

on November 12, Volodymyr Zelenskyy established the Day of the State Bureau of Investigation in Ukraine. The text of the decree was published on the President’s website, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

“Taking into account the importance and role of the State Bureau of Investigation in the performance of tasks related to the prevention, detection, suppression, disclosure and investigation of criminal offenses, I decide to establish the Day of the State Bureau of Investigation in Ukraine, which shall be celebrated annually on November 12,” the document says.

In his evening video address, Zelensky said that Tuesday marked the ninth anniversary of the adoption of the law on the State Bureau of Investigation.

“I thank each and every person in the SBI structure who cares about the state’s interests and ensures greater opportunities for justice in Ukraine through their work,” the president said.

As a reminder, on November 12, 2015, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the State Bureau of Investigation.

Its tasks include preventing organized criminal activity, countering terrorist and other particularly serious violent crimes, and ensuring the security of individuals, society and the state.

The Bureau investigates crimes punishable by life imprisonment, war crimes, and crimes committed by law enforcement officers, including the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
