Zelensky responds to Putin’s idea of a Victory Day truce: video

28 April 23:23

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that there is no reason to postpone the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia until May 8 just so that dictator Vladimir Putin can ensure silence at the Victory Day parade. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the president’s evening address.

Earlier, on April 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a new “truce” in the Russian-Ukrainian war – during the Victory Day celebrations. It is to start at midnight on May 8 and will last until midnight on May 11.

The Head of State reminded that the occupants had attacked civilian infrastructure in Cherkasy region with Shaheds. And this happened against the backdrop of demands to Russia to end the war and start a truce.

“That is, every new day is a new clear proof that Russia needs to be put under pressure, and put under tangible pressure, so that they are forced to end this war, a war that only Russia needs,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

He emphasized that Ukraine is also ready to work as quickly as possible with all partners who can help establish peace and guarantee security. And on March 11, the country agreed to the American proposal for a complete truce.

Kyiv also offered Moscow to stop striking civilian objects or extend the Easter “truce” for at least 30 days. But Russia rejected such ideas and is now trying to deceive the United States.

“Now there is another attempt at manipulation: for some reason, everyone has to wait until May 8 and only then cease fire. To ensure Putin’s silence during the parade. We value people’s lives, not parades. That is why we believe that the world believes that there is no reason to wait until May 8. And the fire should not be stopped for a few days to kill again,” he said.

According to the President, only a complete and unconditional ceasefire for at least 30 days can provide a basis for real diplomacy.

“Russia knows what to do and how to respond – a ceasefire is realistic. And we believe that the pressure of the world, the pressure of the United States of America, can push Russia to the response that is needed,” he added.

The previous “truce”

On the eve of Easter, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had ordered “all hostilities to cease” from 18:00 on April 19 to 00:00 on April 21. Zelenskyy responded that Ukraine was ready to join the format of a complete ceasefire and would act in a mirror image of Russia’s actions, i.e. “silence in response to silence, strikes in defense of strikes.”

Nevertheless, on April 20 alone, Ukraine recorded more than 2,000 violations of the ceasefire by the Russians.
