What we know about Andriy Melnyk

Previously, Andriy Melnyk served as Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine under Dmytro Kuleba. From 2014 to 2022, Melnyk served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany.

During his tenure as Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, he sharply criticized Berlin and Chancellor Olaf Scholz personally for the insufficient amount of weapons provided.

He compared the then German chancellor to an “offended liverwurst”, using a sharp German phraseology for the head of the German government, which means an unfounded insult, although he later apologized for his words.

In addition, while working in Kyiv, Melnyk actively criticized his successor in Berlin, Alexei Makeev.
