Zelensky signed the law on deferment of mobilization: who will be affected

31 December 22:27

On December 31, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Bill No. 12104 on deferral and demobilization for relatives of those killed or missing in action. This is stated in the bill’s card, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

The law provides for the exemption from mobilization of those who were deprived of their personal freedom due to armed aggression against Ukraine. We are talking about those who were in Russian captivity. They can be called up for service only at their own request.

People whose relatives went missing in the war will also be allowed to defer their service.

The Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of the bill on November 20, with 304 MPs supporting the document. On the same day, the Rada supported the immediate signing of the law.

It should be noted that social media criminals monitor public messages of people looking for information about their loved ones in captivity. Fraudsters use their vulnerable emotional state and lure out personal data.

Under the guise of help, fraudsters try to find out confidential information: personal data of military personnel (name, unit, rank, status), bank details, and ask to send photos of documents and other personal data.

Recommendations for citizens to protect themselves from fraudsters:

  1. Check the sources of information. Always clarify who exactly is offering help. Use only official resources, such as websites of government agencies or trusted organizations that deal with the release of prisoners of war.
  2. Protect your personal data. Do not share confidential information with strangers, avoid disclosing personal data on social media, even in private messages.
  3. Be careful with suspicious offers. Beware of financial requests related to the release or search for missing persons. Government agencies and official volunteer organizations do not charge for information or assistance.
  4. Contact law enforcement agencies. If you suspect fraud, contact the Cyberpolice at https://ticket.cyberpolice.gov.ua/.
