President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with President of France Emmanuel Macron. The main topics discussed were support for the Ukrainian army, expanding defense cooperation, and joint cooperation within the international coalition of partners. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Presidential Office.
During the conversation, the parties continued to prepare decisions within the so-called coalition of the willing, an initiative of states that actively support Ukraine in its counteraction to Russian aggression. As Zelenskyy emphasized, the interaction is becoming “more and more practical,” which allows achieving concrete results in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
The presidents discussed in detail the support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the supply of military equipment, joint projects, and domestic arms production in Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to expanding cooperation in defense technology.
Coordination of efforts with the United States of America was a separate topic of conversation. The leaders agreed that it is necessary to maintain a common vision and act together to effectively put pressure on Russia and maintain stability in Europe.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked France and Emmanuel Macron personally for their continued support of Ukraine.
As previously reported, on May 10, the leaders of the “Coalition of the Resolute” arrived in Kyiv. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The visit took place against the backdrop of European leaders’ efforts to accelerate the cessation of Russian military aggression and ensure a just peace in Ukraine, in particular after a ceasefire of at least 30 days. The leaders also discussed the possibility of sending a contingent to Ukraine to monitor the ceasefire.
In addition, during the talks in Kyiv, the leaders of the “Coalition of the Resolute” called US President Donald Trump. The parties agreed to call on Russia to implement a full ceasefire for 30 days starting May 12, and threatened to impose new sanctions in case of refusal.
