In the first half of 2024, the State Audit Service of Ukraine managed to return to the budget several times higher than in the same period last year – UAH 2.3 billion – based on the results of its audits. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the State Audit Service.
The head of the State Audit Service of Ukraine, Alla Basalaeva, noted that this amount is 2.3 times higher than the corresponding figure for the previous year, which was UAH 1 billion.
“These data show high professionalism and effective work in controlling state financial and material resources, as well as in identifying violations and shortcomings in economic activities. For comparison, this summer the government allocated a similar amount of money for the restoration of roads for defence and humanitarian purposes in the frontline regions,” Basalaeva said during the Board meeting to summarise the work of the State Audit Service and its interregional territorial bodies for the first six months of 2024.
The Head of the State Audit Service added that the main tasks for the State Audit Service remain the audit of local budgets: how social facilities and homes of citizens damaged by the occupier are being rebuilt, systematic control over the inevitability of liability of offenders and improvement of the tools of work of state auditors to combat financial abuse, fraud and corruption.
Recently, the State Audit Service of Ukraine revealed a large-scale scheme of illegal privatisation of office housing at the National Aviation University (NAU).
Earlier, in 2021-2022, the State Audit Service found that 374 judges of local general courts did not administer justice but still received judicial remuneration. It cost the budget more than UAH 430 million.
