Salaries of heads of Ukrainian universities: who gets the most

According to an analysis of the declarations of the heads of the twenty most popular higher education institutions in Ukraine conducted by the analytical portal Slovo i Dilo, the former rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Yuriy Bobalo, topped the ranking in terms of salary in 2024. His official income in the position amounted to UAH 1 million 729.3 thousand, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Yuriy Bobalo, who headed Lviv Polytechnic from 2007 until March 2025, when a new leader was elected, received the highest remuneration for his work among all the heads of leading universities. It is worth noting that Lviv Polytechnic is the second most popular university among applicants in Ukraine.
Rector of Kyiv Polytechnic Anatoliy Melnychenko, who has held this position since July 2024, took the second place in the salary ranking. His annual salary amounted to UAH 1 million 657.3 thousand. At the same time, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is in fourth place in the ranking of popularity among applicants.
Vadym Tkachuk, Rector of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, took the third position in terms of salary (11th place), with an income of UAH 1 million 368.3 thousand. He has held this position since June 2024.

Volodymyr Buhrov, Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, who ranks third in popularity among applicants, declared UAH 1 million 244 thousand in annual salary.
Volodymyr Melnyk, acting rector of the most popular higher education institution in Ukraine, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, received UAH 1 million 236 thousand.
The acting rector of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University (12th most popular), Oleksandr Turuntsev, declared an annual income of UAH 1 million 202 thousand.
The heads of other leading universities received the following annual salaries:
- Volodymyr Smolanka (Uzhhorod National University, 16th place) – UAH 911.9 thousand
- Serhiy Kvit (National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, 17th place) – UAH 907 thousand
- Tetiana Kahanovska (V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, 10th place) – UAH 893.3 thousand
- Dmytro Lukianenko (Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman, 7th place) – UAH 868.4 thousand
- Iryna Vakhovych (Lutsk National Technical University, 15th place) – UAH 861.5 thousand
- Oksana Desyatniuk (Western Ukrainian National University in Ternopil, 19th place) – UAH 832.1 thousand
- Ruslan Biloskurskyi (Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, 6th place) – UAH 776.7 thousand (in office since June 2024)
- Anatolii Mazaraki (State University of Trade and Economics in Kyiv, 5th place) – UAH 730.6 thousand
- Ihor Tsependa (Acting Rector of the Precarpathian National University in Ivano-Frankivsk, 8th place) – UAH 715.3 thousand
- Kseniia Semenova (acting rector of Kyiv Aviation University, former NAU, 9th place) – UAH 653.8 thousand
- Oleh Todoshchak (Odesa Law Academy, 20th place) – UAH 633.1 thousand
- Anatolii Tsios (acting rector of Volyn National University, 13th place) – UAH 627.1 thousand
- Serhii Okovytyi (Dnipro National University, 18th place) – UAH 615.2 thousand
- Viktor Andrushchenko (National Pedagogical Dragomanov University, 14th place) – UAH 560.5 thousand
Thus, the range of annual salaries of the heads of the twenty most popular higher education institutions in Ukraine in 2024 was from UAH 560,500 to 1.7 million, with the highest remuneration going to the former rector of Lviv Polytechnic.
