Attempted murder of Sternenko: new details are known

The Security Service of Ukraine has detained the woman who shot at volunteer Serhiy Sternenko, Komersant ukrainskyi reports, citing a statement from the service.
Moreover, the SBU said it had prevented the activist’s murder.
“The Security Service of Ukraine prevented the murder of a well-known public activist and volunteer Serhiy Sternenko. Today he was assassinated with a firearm. Thanks to the professional and immediate actions of the SBU officers, the attacker was detained on the spot,”
– the SBU said in a statement.
Serhiy Sternenko’s life is currently in no danger.
Operational and investigative actions regarding the attempted assassination are underway. The SBU promises to inform about the situation.
Meanwhile, Sternenko himself said that the bullet hit his body and went through and through.
“I was operated on. The bullet went through. It didn’t hit anything important. I’m trying to think,”
– the volunteer wrote.
He also spoke in support of the legalization of firearms.
“The attacker had a weapon. An illegal short-barreled gun. But Ukrainians are still not allowed to have such weapons for self-defense. Only murderers are allowed,”
– sternenko wrote.
The attempt on Sternenko’s life and his injury became known this afternoon from his own post on Telegram.

Sergiy Sternenko: volunteer and activist
serhiy Sternenko is a Ukrainian public figure, blogger and volunteer known for his active participation in the Revolution of Dignity and his fight against pro-Russian forces in Odesa. He was born on March 20, 1995 in the village of Sadove, Odesa region. In 2014, he headed the Odesa branch of the Right Sector and became one of the founders of the People’s Lustration movement, known for its “garbage lustration” actions.
After a series of attacks in 2018, one of which resulted in the death of the attacker, Sternenko was charged with exceeding the limits of self-defense, but in 2023 the court closed the case due to lack of evidence of an intentional crime.
After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sternenko took up volunteer work, including raising funds for drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. His YouTube channel “STERNENKO” has more than 2 million subscribers and is one of the most popular in the Ukrainian-language segment.
