The law on deprivation of state awards simultaneously abolished an important anti-corruption provision, – MP
25 November 13:17Law No. 4074-IX, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on November 20, which provides for the deprivation of state awards to collaborators, simultaneously repeals an important anti-corruption and European integration provision. The head of the Verkhovna Rada‘s anti-corruption committee, Anastasia Radina, wrote about this on Facebook, according to Komersant ukrainskyi
According to her, this law abolished part of the important European integration bill No. 4033-IX, which concerned plea bargains for those accused of corruption. In particular, the amendments to Article 77 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine introduced by the law on deprivation of awards deprived anti-corruption authorities of the ability to confiscate property of persons who enter into agreements with the investigation.
“You got it right: starting from November 21, anti-corruption agencies have no right to confiscate property from a corruption accused who has agreed to cooperate with the investigation in exchange for a plea bargain, because the provision that provided for this no longer exists,”
– Radina noted.
The MP is not sure whether these changes were the result of negligence or deliberate sabotage on the part of the specialized law enforcement committee.
“One thing is clear: thanks to these actions of our colleagues, those accused of corruption who are trying to make a deal with the investigation will be able to keep their property,”
– added the head of the committee.
Radina announced the registration of a new draft law aimed at returning the previous version of Article 77 with the provision on confiscation of property to the Criminal Code.
