The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is working on a draft law to strengthen the mobilisation process. In the course of approving amendments to the document, it was proposed to introduce a provision on military registration of retirees of law enforcement agencies and customs authorities. This is stated in the material of the Judicial and Legal Newspaper, according to Kommersant Ukrainian
Thus, it is known that MPs proposed to supplement subparagraph 1 of paragraph 2 of section II of the Final Provisions of the draft law with provisions according to which male citizens dismissed from service aged 18 to 60, including in connection with retirement, must register for military service at the territorial centre for recruitment and social support.
This also applies to former employees:
– National Police of Ukraine;
– senior and rank-and-file personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine;
– Operational and Rescue Service of Civil Protection, civil protection bodies and units;
– State Bureau of Investigation;
– The State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine;
– Judicial Protection Service;
– State Tax Service;
– State Customs Service;
– Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine.
If the amendment is adopted, men in these categories will be required to register for military service within 60 days of the law’s entry into force.
However, the changes will not apply to SBI employees who do not have special awards and NABU employees.
New draft law on mobilisation
on 7 February, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a new draft law on mobilisation without proposals from the relevant committee. It is expected to be voted on as a whole at the end of February, and the draft law may enter into force in April.
The draft law proposes, among other things, to introduce summonses through the conscript’s electronic cabinet. Other innovations include lowering the conscription age to 25, setting the demobilisation period at 36 months, introducing voluntary mobilisation for convicts, restrictions on evaders, banning civil service without military training, etc.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security has begun analysing the amendments submitted to the Government’s draft law 10449 on strengthening mobilisation. There are more than 4,000 such amendments.
