Threats of Russian strikes: Ukraine introduces blackouts
25 December 06:37On the morning of December 25, emergency power outages were introduced in a number of regions due to the threat of Russian strikes on the energy sector. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to Ukrenergo.
“In connection with a large-scale missile attack, consumption restriction measures have been applied. Find out the schedules of blackouts in your region on the website and official pages of your regional power company,” the statement reads.
Preventive power outages are carried out to prevent even larger-scale accidents in the event of Russian missiles or drones hitting power facilities.
In this way, Ukrenergo wants to minimize the consequences of the shelling and preserve the energy infrastructure.
The power will be turned back on after the threat is over. However, the system will take several hours to launch to prevent a large load on the power system at the same time.
Before the blackouts were introduced, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine warned of the takeoff of Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea and the threat of cruise missiles. An air alert was declared throughout Ukraine.
Later, the Air Force reported the launch of Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea.
In addition, monitoring channels reported the launch of X101 missiles from Tu-95MS bombers.
