Despite the aggressive public rhetoric of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his “weaponry”, the situation on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border remains unchanged. This was announced by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, during a telethon, reports Komersant ukrainskyi
“The situation along the border, as far as we can visually observe, has not changed at all. There is no movement of equipment or personnel from the army units of Belarus,” the official said,
– the official said.
He did not rule out that the movement of equipment across Belarus is being carried out to escalate the situation and create the necessary picture. However, these movements are not large-scale.
“But we need to understand that, in general, this area remains a threat to us. We need to understand that Russia is likely to continue to put pressure on Belarus to try to destabilise the situation along the border, or perhaps to somehow more fully join this war,”
– demchenko added.
The day before, on 18 August, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that he had sent almost a third of his army to the border with Ukraine (the Belarusian army has about 60,000 personnel). After that, on 19 August, the Associated Press reported that Belarus had deployed aviation and air defence on the border with Ukraine.
