This year, Trump has stated no less than 33 times that he will end the war in Ukraine immediately after taking office

On the first day of his presidency, Donald Trump promised not only to end the war in Ukraine, but also to close the border to illegal immigrants, stop the forced switch to electric cars, pardon the participants in the January 6 riots, and repeal a huge number of regulations. Axios counted what exactly and how many times the US president-elect promised, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

The first place in terms of the number of statements made is the promise to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. Trump mentioned it at least 33 times. However, in recent days, possibly under the influence of his advisers who have delved into the situation, Donald Trump, speaking to journalists, no longer assured that he would be able to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war within 24 hours of taking office, but simply admitted that achieving peace in Ukraine could be a more difficult task than ending the war between Israel and Hamas. Therefore, Axios focuses more on domestic American topics in the article.

According to the publication, Trump’s promise to close the border to illegal immigrants on his first day in the highest US office was mentioned 32 times.

In third place (26 times) were the Republican’s statements about his willingness to limit funding for schools that make vaccinations mandatory and teach that racism is entrenched in the United States.

Donald Trump also promised 25 times during the year to “launch the largest deportation operation” of illegal immigrants from the country. And 22 times he announced his intention to stop the forced transition to electric cars.

According to Axios, an analysis of hundreds of Trump’s speeches, press conferences, and interviews suggests that his promises mostly relate to three broad domestic American topics.

1. Immigration. No issue has defined Trump’s political identity more than his fight against illegal immigration, especially after the number of border crossings under Joe Biden’s presidency rose to record levels. And, as the publication recognizes, Trump is determined to immediately launch the largest deportation operation in US history, despite logistical challenges.

The president-elect has also promised to issue an executive order abolishing birthright citizenship, creating a constitutional dispute over the 14th Amendment that could end up in the Supreme Court.

2. Fodder for MAGA. The next group of executive orders will be aimed at institutionalizing the conservative culture wars that have dominated Republican politics over the past few years.

The top priorities for the first day include banning diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, as well as pardoning supporters convicted of the January 6th invasion of the Capitol.

Trump, whose campaign spent millions of dollars on anti-transgender ads, also wants to pass regulations that would ban trans women from playing women’s sports, although the exact mechanism for doing so is not yet known.

3. Big business. CEO and investor confidence has risen sharply since the election. Trump has promised to speed up the issuance of drilling and fracking permits, even if it means acting like a “dictator” for one day. The inauguration will also start the countdown to his one-year goal of reducing energy prices by 50%.

Trump plans to aggressively target Biden’s climate policies, ending support for electric vehicles and scrapping emissions standards, as well as any “job-killing” regulations.

Wall Street, meanwhile, is working feverishly to convince Trump not to impose radical tariffs on US trading partners, but he seems intent on ushering in a new era of protectionism.

However, as Axios reminds us, many of Trump’s broad promises will require congressional support. Others have turned out to be hyperbole, as Donald Trump himself has admitted.
