A Braille primer for adults was published with the support of UKRSIBBANK

“The Primer for Adults is the first educational publication in Ukraine for people who have lost their sight. The project was implemented as part of the We’re Proud platform for real action to change society for the sake of defenders and veterans. UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group donated UAH 430 thousand for the creation and publication of the primer, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group has supported the International Charitable Foundation “Health of the Future” and joined the creation and publishing of the “Primer for Adults” in Braille, providing UAH 430 thousand of charitable assistance. The bank supported this project as part of theWe’re Proudplatform for real action to change society for the sake of defenders, veterans, and women veterans.

The book was created for people who lost their eyesight due to the hostilities in Ukraine and was developed with a universal design in mind: in Braille and enlarged flat-print font.

“Primer for Adults” is a two-volume edition supplemented with didactic materials “The World of Letters” and “The World of Numbers”. The set includes embossed images of letters, numbers, mathematical signs and geometric shapes. The total print run is 200 copies of the book and 200 sets of didactic materials. They will be handed over to rehabilitation centers, NGOs and educational and rehabilitation centers for visually impaired people.

Sight loss is a difficult challenge that requires both physical and psychological and social support. People who have lost their ability to see due to war or other circumstances face challenges in adapting to a new reality. The innovative Primer for Adults is a training manual and a tool for returning to active life. It helps to develop the basic skills necessary for further education, employment and integration into society.

Rehabilitation of military and civilian personnel with visual impairments is an important element of the country’s social recovery strategy. The project promotes learning and maintains psychological balance.
