In 11 months of 2024, Ukrainian banks will pay UAH 44.52 billion in income tax. This is already 1.7 times more than in the same period in 2023. This is reported by Opendatabot, according to Komersant ukrainskyi.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, 62 Ukrainian banks have to pay more than UAH 44.5 billion in income tax for the first half of 2024. It is worth noting that last year the tax for banks was also increased in the last quarter.

Banks paid the largest amount of taxes for the year so far in November: uAH 7.05 billion. Most of them – UAH 4.47 billion, or 63% – are paid by banks with foreign capital.

It is noted that the total profit of banks before taxes amounted to UAH 175.6 billion. This is 12% more than in the corresponding period of 2023.

Previously [Komersant] reported that in the first nine months of 2024, solvent banks maintained profitability and received UAH 118 billion in net profit.

The main factor of profitability remains the maintenance of a high net interest margin due to the growth of lending and investments in government bonds.

Thus, according to the NBU, in the third quarter, the average yield on loans and the portfolio of domestic government bonds practically stabilized, and the volume of such instruments continued to grow. Thus, the volume of the gross hryvnia portfolio of loans granted to customers since the beginning of 2024 has increased by 14.5% (net portfolio – by 23.6%), the volume of investments in government bonds – by 21.1%.

The NBU reminded that in 2023, according to updated data, banks received UAH 82.8 billion in net profit after charging UAH 76.2 billion in income tax at an increased rate of 50%.
