President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s bodyguard, Maksym Donets, has recently been in the spotlight for his new purchase – a luxury Garmin Marq watch worth almost 100,000 hryvnias. This purchase caused a wave of outrage among Ukrainians, which led to active discussions on social media, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
Maxim Donets posted a photo of the expensive watch on his Instagram page, which quickly attracted public attention.
Eagle-eyed users immediately noticed that the watch on his hand was a Garmin Marq, which costs about 95,000 hryvnias.
For many Ukrainians earning the minimum wage, such a purchase looks like an unattainable luxury, as its cost is equal to almost a year of their work. Social media has begun to debate whether it is worth buying such an expensive watch and where did the bodyguard of the President of Ukraine get the money for it?
Petro Z., one of the social media users, spoke out sharply about this situation, writing: “The stolen billions will be enough not only for security, but for all the whims. And you are green arseholes, don’t do this […] a white and fluffy jester”
Ukrainians began to argue whether it was worth buying such an expensive watch and, in general, how Maksym Donets had bought it.
Valentyna S.: “The bodyguard of our President has good earnings, but for ordinary mortals there is a “hole in the budget” and who makes this hole?
Justyna O. “Oh, my God, I can’t stand to look at them…”
Kateryna Kryvenko: “If you are a true patriot, then exchange your watch for underpants for the Armed Forces. It’s no secret that there is a shortage of underpants, just like there is a shortage of shells. Pensioners provide our army with underpants. And Zelensky’s puppies are all wearing watches for half a lakh. Shame on this government.”
Oksana Kondratova: “The people donate to the army, while the President spends billions on security, police and the TCC!”
Some users defended Maksym Donets, noting that everyone has the right to make their own choice and buy what they like, as long as it does not violate the law. Commentators believe that if a person has a high salary and a dangerous job, then they should not go into their pockets and find out where the watch came from.
- Andriy B.: “Why should he go to the cashier for 1000 hryvnias, many people are or were bodyguards of presidents!!!!”
- Kateryna Y.: “Well done for having such a watch!!! Wear it for your health!!!”
- Maria K.: Why are you jealous? Go and risk your life. Only idlers are jealous, while decent and brave people earn money.”
- Maria P.k: “We don’t care about his watch, we don’t know where he lived, worked, earned money, if he bought it, it means his earnings allowed him to buy such a watch. Security functions of this rank are highly paid all over the world.”
- Vira D.: “The president of every country has bodyguards! And they get paid. And where they spend it is none of our business.”
It should be reminded that Maksym Donets became the Head of the Presidential Security Service of Ukraine in 2019. He became known not only for his work but also for his appearance, which attracted the attention of social media users.
Since his appointment, he has been constantly accompanying the President, especially during important trips and meetings. His presence and attention to detail in the course of his duties have made him popular on social media, where photos and videos of him have received hundreds of thousands of likes. He is particularly popular with the female audience, who express their sympathy in the comments below his images.
