The Ukrainian youth hockey team has won the world championship in Division I. In the last game of the tournament, which is taking place in Tallinn, Estonia, the Ukrainian U-20 team defeated rivals from Japan 7-2. This was reported by the Ukrainian Ice Hockey Federation, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
Earlier, Ukrainian hockey players scored maximum points, defeating the national teams of Estonia (8:1), Poland (3:0), Italy (6:5) and South Korea (5:2) in turn.
The championship standings are as follows:
1. Ukraine – 15 points (5 matches), 29:10 (goal difference)
2. Japan – 9 points (5), 26:24
3. Italy – 6 points (4), 19:18
4. Estonia – 6 points (4), 13:19
5. South Korea – 2 points (4), 9:17
6. Poland – 1 point (4) 12:20
The Ukrainian youth team was ranked first before the decisive game against Japan. In order to become the winners of the tournament, it was enough for the Ukrainians not to lose to the Japanese in regular time. And that’s exactly what the Ukrainian boys did, winning.
After becoming the world champion in Division IV, Ukraine won a ticket to Division I, where it had not played for 14 years.

Ukrainian hockey players continue to compete at the 2025 Universiade
