On his way to meet his sister: People’s Artist of Ukraine Bohdan Stashkiv died in a road accident (photo)

on 7 October, People’s Artist of Ukraine Bohdan Stashkiv died in a car accident. This was reported by Komersant UkrainianKomersant Ukrainian, citing information from the National Police.

According to the communications department of the police in Zakarpattia region, the accident occurred at around 14:10 on the Nyzhni Vorota-Volovets-Mizhhirya road.

Stashkiv, who was driving, lost control of the car: the man did not choose a safe speed for driving. The car slid into a ditch and flipped onto its roof. The driver and his 59-year-old passenger died from their injuries at the scene of the accident. A 67-year-old female passenger was also hospitalised at the scene.

Details of the fatal accident also became known on social media. As it turned out, Bohdan Stashkiv, along with his neighbour and wife, was on his way to meet his sister, who had come from Canada.


Bohdan Stashkiv was born on 21 August 1957. He graduated from the Rivne Institute of Culture and Lviv State University. He worked at an enterprise, was the director of the House of Culture in Tysmenytsia, and head of the local department of culture.

In 2001, he launched the children’s contest-festival “West – XXI Century”, became its director and patron. Over the years, Tina Karol, Vitalii Kozlovskyi, and Iryna Lonchyna have participated in this song contest.

In the 2000s, Stashkiv received several orders, and in 2006 he received a medal from the Minister of Defence of Ukraine for his charity peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. The singer gave concerts in Ukraine and toured Europe, performing in Canada and the United States of America.
