The European Union has finally agreed that interest from frozen Russian assets in Europe should be sent to Ukraine. This was written by journalist Rickard Jozwiak in X, reports .
“Tonight, EU ambassadors finally gave the green light to the first step – putting the proceeds of frozen Russian assets into a separate account. Now we need to agree on the next step – the actual transfer of funds to Ukraine,”
– the journalist wrote.
This decision is a compromise, as a number of EU states are strongly opposed to the transfer of Russian frozen assets to Ukraine. This violates their fundamental principles of the inviolability of private property.
The United States has a different view, which seems to be ready to confiscate Russian assets in favour of Ukraine. For example, a bill called the Restoring Economic Prosperity for Ukrainians Act has already been approved by parliamentary committees. According to this document, any seized Russian funds should be used to help Ukraine. The bill has the support of both parties in Congress.
