How to plant carrots so that you don’t have to dig them out later: a selection of the most effective methods

Every housewife faces difficulties when sowing carrots, as the size of their seeds is very small compared to those of other crops. In this regard, when sown from a sachet, carrots are sown unevenly, which can lead to too sparse planting or, on the contrary, excessive crowding. Due to uneven planting, there is a need to thin it out later so that the carrots have enough space to grow and each of the sprouts receives enough nutrients, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
At the same time, various methods of sowing carrots have appeared on the Internet, which allow you to avoid weeding the plant when it sprouts.
Methods of planting carrots to avoid thinning
- Sowing in groups. The seeds are sown in small portions (pinches) in separate recesses at a distance of 10-15 cm from each other. After emergence, it is enough to select the largest root crops, leaving space for the rest of the carrots to grow.
- Mixing with sand. Adding a few tablespoons of seeds to half a bucket of sand and mixing thoroughly will help ensure that the seeds are evenly distributed during sowing. This method avoids thickening of the seedlings.
- Sowing together with other crops. Mixing carrot seeds with radish, spinach, or lettuce seeds and adding river sand will help to achieve an even planting. The fast-growing crops will be the first to produce, so the carrots will sprout in the gaps and have plenty of room to grow.
- Use improvised objects to distribute the seeds. Plastic salt shakers or toothpick jars can be a handy tool for evenly sowing carrot seeds. This will help to avoid thickened crops and make the planting process much easier.
- Sowing with a paste. Add the seeds to the prepared paste (an adhesive mixture of flour or starch) and mix thoroughly. The resulting mass is poured into a bottle with a hole in the lid and gently squeezed onto the bed. This ensures that the seeds are evenly distributed along the entire length of the furrow.
- Use napkins or toilet paper. The seeds can be pre-glued onto thin strips of paper using a paste made from flour or starch. After they are completely dry, the strips with seeds are placed in the soil. This method will help to ensure the correct spacing of the seeds, which eliminates the need to thin out the carrots after they germinate.
- Planting seeds in granules. For those who want to simplify the planting process as much as possible, manufacturers offer seeds in a special shell. Due to their larger size, such seeds are easier to sow at the right distance, which allows you to get even sprouts without the need to break through.
Using these methods will help you to facilitate the process of sowing and growing carrots, reduce the amount of time spent on caring for the beds, and ensure a better harvest.
