Kyiv fares may rise: official names new price
25 November 21:58Public transportation in Kyiv should cost 30 hryvnias to cover all necessary expenses. This was stated by Ruslan Kandybor, Director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration, in an interview with the Khmarochos media outlet, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to the official, the last time the fare for public transportation in Kyiv changed was in 2018. The new price for passengers always depends on factors such as inflation, electricity costs, rising fuel and lubricants costs, employee salaries, and vehicle maintenance.
“Keep in mind that Kyiv is a city of one million people, where our transport transports passengers from one end of the city to the other every day. Can you imagine how many flights, passengers, and kilometers that means? If you have analyzed the cost of travel in other Ukrainian cities, you have probably seen that Kyiv has the cheapest fare,” Kandybor told reporters.
He emphasized that the cost of travel for Kyiv residents and guests of the capital is currently the same as for residents of Rivne and Ivano-Frankivsk, although buses and trolleybuses there cover much less mileage than in Kyiv.
“As a manager, I have to take into account the company’s economy. Right now, 30 hryvnias is an economically justified fare that would be conducive to development. However, I emphasize that as long as the city can subsidize this difference, although it is very difficult, the fare will not change. At the moment, there is no question of raising the price,” the official emphasized.
