Ukraine hopes to slow down Russia’s offensive and seize the initiative by the time Donald Trump takes office, as Ukrainian officials believe that successes on the front lines will help convince the US president-elect to continue to support them. This was reported by the Financial Times, according to Komersant ukrainskyiKomersant Ukrainian.

But, the publication emphasizes, Ukrainian officials admit that they are having difficulty containing the larger and better-equipped Russian army due to a lack of manpower and have plans to increase mobilization. However, according to the Financial Times, efforts to attract new recruits are hampered by the fact that military service is now virtually indefinite.

At the same time, the Financial Times estimates that Ukraine’s mobilization reserve is currently 3.7 million people.

The publication calculated that the number of men in Ukraine between the ages of 25 and 60 is 11.1 million. Of these:

– 1.2 million have already been mobilized or have gone to the front as volunteers.

– 2.9 million live in the occupied territories.

– 1.3 million have gone abroad.

– 600 thousand are booked.

– 1.5 million are unfit for military service.

– 3.7 million are men who can be mobilized. But 900 thousand of them are not registered in any registers.
