Secondary car market: in March, the number of both cheap and expensive cars on sale increased
3 April 11:49
On average, Ukrainians offer $2 billion worth of used cars for sale online every month. This is stated in a review of the secondary car market prepared by the team of the Institute for Automotive Research, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
To estimate price changes in the secondary car market, almost 3 million records of the Automoto.ua aggregator were analyzed, which contains ads for the sale of cars from about a hundred Ukrainian car sites.
The first conclusion is that the number of new ads has slightly decreased: from 222.1 thousand in February to 213.8 thousand in March.
The share of both the cheapest and most expensive cars has increased
Over the year, i.e. from March 2024 to March 2025, the share of ultra-budget options in the price range of up to $2 thousand increased.
The share of expensive cars (by the standards of our market) priced at more than $20 thousand also continues to grow: last year it was 8.7%, now it is 9.2%.
The average price of offers increased slightly
After a record-breaking and sharp jump to $6500 last year in November, the average price in the array of ads continued to decline in February this year, stopping at $5750. However, by the end of last month, the broken line on the graph went up to $5900.

How prices changed in different segments
The lowest average price, which amounted to $2700 in March, is for cars with gas cylinder equipment.
The most popular segment on the market, gasoline cars, is in the middle: between the cars with LPG equipment and diesel cars just mentioned. The current average price of all offers here is $6000, up 3.4% from a month earlier.
The average price for used diesel cars is now $7200, up 2.8% from a month earlier. By the way, a similar trend of rising average prices for gasoline and diesel cars is also observed in European car markets.
The segment of cars with hybrid powertrains has always been characterized by price instability. This time, however, the changes are not too significant: minus 1.4% compared to the previous period, and the total is $14,000. However, it should be understood that the share of “hybrids” in the secondary market is relatively small – about 1.2%, so prices here fluctuate much more than in other segments. Nevertheless, $14,000 is the second highest value for the 12-month observation period.
About the electric car segment. The prolonged decline in the average price, which was observed for almost the entire last year, for this group gave way to a noticeable increase in October. Then, in December and January, the average went down again, but in February, the trend changed to an increase in prices, and as a result, we have $16,800 (plus $800). March showed a slight decrease in the average price in the BEV (battery electric vehicle) segment – by 1.8% to $16,500.
