On the night of Tuesday, 20 August, and in the morning, Russia attacked Kyiv with attack drones and cruise missiles. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi
with reference to the Kyiv City Military Administration.
According to preliminary information, Russia attacked the capital of Ukraine from the north, probably with cruise missiles such as Iskander-K.
Air defence forces destroyed the missiles on the outskirts of the city. The type and number of missiles will be reported by the Air Force.
“This was the fifth missile attack on Kyiv this month! The missiles were destroyed by air defence forces and means on the outskirts of the city,” the statement said.
The defenders also eliminated drones launched by the occupation forces.
According to the administration, there were no damages or casualties.
Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, said that last night the enemy attacked Ukraine with ballistic, cruise and guided missiles, as well as Shahed-type attack UAVs.
“On the night of 20 August 2024, the enemy attacked with two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Voronezh region, an Iskander-K cruise missile from the Bryansk region, and X-59 guided missiles from the airspace of the Kursk and Zaporizhzhia regions,” the statement said.
The enemy also sent 26 Shahed attack UAVs (launch areas – Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Yeysk, Kursk – Russian Federation).
As a result of the anti-aircraft combat, the aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile firing groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces and electronic warfare units shot down 28 air targets.
In particular, one Iskander-K cruise missile, two X-59 guided missiles and 25 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs were shot down in Kyiv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
