Military commander collected one million hryvnias in “tributes” from his subordinates

The State Bureau of Investigation has uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme in a military unit in the Kherson region. There, a former division commander systematically demanded illegal payments and bribes from his subordinates, Komersant ukrainskyi reports, citing the SBI press service.
According to the investigation, the official organized a criminal scheme in which he extorted money from military personnel for granting vacations. He also blackmailed his subordinates, threatening them with disciplinary action for alleged violations.
The servicemen were forced not only to pay cash, but also to provide various services and buy the commander household appliances, computer equipment and things for his children.
The SBI claims that during 2023-2024, the total amount of the commander’s illegal “earnings” amounted to about one million hryvnias.
The suspect has been detained and served a notice of suspicion. The investigation is ongoing.
