The war will not end in one day, but Trump can speed up peace, – Zelenskyy

Russia’s war against Ukraine will not end overnight. At the same time, the hot stage may end quickly enough if US President-elect Donald Trump is strong in his position. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview broadcast during a telethon, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

“The war will not end in one day. The hot stage of the war can indeed end quickly enough if Trump is strong in his position and it is desirable that this position coincides with his European colleagues,” Zelensky said.

According to Zelenskyy, Trump emphasized that he would be one of the first to visit him after the inauguration.

“I think we will have a meeting after the inauguration. I think we will start working, already understanding the whole plan. Of course, I would like this plan that President Trump will propose to coincide with our vision,” the president said.

Zelenskyy also suggested that Trump would have contacts with the Russian side.

“I think they will study many different details, who is ready for what. I think this will be the first period. From this, we will build the next steps that should lead to the termination of the hot stage of the war. This will not mean that the war is completely over, but the “hot stage” is over, and this is an important step forward for the restoration of society and life,” he emphasized.

The President noted that further ending the war would be done through diplomacy.

It should be noted that Trump had already announced his intention to end Russia’s war against Ukraine during the US presidential election campaign. In particular, he claimed that he would be able to do so on the first day of his presidency.

At the same time, NBC News sources from the United States, as well as those close to Kyiv, claim that Trump’s team has not yet told the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about any plans for war. Nevertheless, Zelenskyy’s recent meetings with Trump “were constructive,” and the atmosphere of interaction between Ukrainian officials and the Trump team “was positive.”

Journalists did not receive a response from the US president-elect’s team on how Trump feels about the idea of postponing Ukraine’s accession to NATO, as the media had previously claimed that this was part of Trump’s plan for Ukraine, special envoy Keith Kellogg.

However, the Biden administration said that it would be a “serious mistake for Trump” and a “great achievement for Putin” to insist on a peace deal that would prevent Ukraine from becoming part of NATO in the foreseeable future.

Earlier, the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, said in an interview with Suspilne that Donald Trump’s team had not yet presented a plan to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war.
