Vitkoff meets with Putin in Moscow

25 April 17:17

Special Representative of US President Donald Trump Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, April 25.

This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Radio Liberty reports , "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Russian President Vladimir Putin received special envoy of US President Donald Trump, Steven Witkoff, in the Kremlin today. This is their fourth personal meeting since February of this year,” the report said.

Peskov did not provide any other details of the meeting.

Vitkoff arrived in Moscow this morning.

The White House had previously confirmed that he was to travel to Russia this week, without giving an exact date. Vitkoff’s previous meeting with Putin took place two weeks ago in St. Petersburg.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with CBS News, fragments of which were broadcast on Thursday, that Moscow was supposedly ready to conclude a peace agreement, “but there are some individual points, elements of this agreement that need to be fine-tuned.” He did not say which points he was referring to.

Moscow’s official position at this time is that Ukraine must give up the annexed Crimea and four other regions and join NATO, as well as make other concessions. At the same time, a number of Western media outlets cited sources as saying that Russia could soften its demands and, in particular, agree to stop the conflict on the current front line.

In the same interview, Lavrov called Trump “perhaps the only leader on Earth who has recognized the need to address the root causes” of the conflict in Ukraine. Lavrov did not explain what exactly he meant.

On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that as a concession to bring peace to Ukraine, Russia offers to stop the war and not to seize the entire territory of Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the Trump administration had shown Ukraine and Russia the path to peace and what the finish line should look like, and now both sides must say yes.

At a briefing following a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, President Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is implementing all peace initiatives proposed by the United States that do not contradict the laws and the Constitution; in particular, it is agreeing to a complete ceasefire and signing an agreement with the United States on minerals.
