Visa launches AI assistant: how the bot will buy groceries and tickets for you

Visa is preparing for a major technological shift in the payment systems industry. The company has announced the development of AI assistants that will have access to bank cards to fulfill financial requests in real time, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing the Associated Press.
According to the developers, the new functionality will allow users to purchase goods and services using voice or text commands without logging into a banking app or browser. For example, an AI assistant will be able to find and pay for plane tickets, order food delivery for a week, or choose pants of a certain brand and size.
How does it work?
Users will be able to entrust AI assistants with routine tasks, such as searching for and buying clothes, groceries, or plane tickets. They set a budget and preferences, and AI agents find the right products and make payments through the Visa payment network. At the same time, users retain control by setting spending limits and receiving confirmation before making large purchases.
This approach opens up the prospect of integrating financial services directly into communication environments such as messengers or chatbots, significantly shortening the path from request to payment.
Security and personalization
Visa is introducing AI-Ready Cards, which replace traditional card details with tokenized digital credentials, increasing transaction security. Users can consent to the use of their purchase history to improve personalized recommendations from AI assistants.
Last week, Visa announced partnerships with leading AI developers, including:
- Anthropic (Claude model),
- Microsoft,
- OpenAI (ChatGPT model),
- Perplexity AI,
- Mistral AI.
According to Visa representatives, the main goal is to integrate payment solutions without compromising security. The technology will use multifactor authentication and other security mechanisms to prevent fraud.
Pilot projects and the future
The first pilot projects are expected to be launched this year in the United States and the United Kingdom. Market analysts note that the launch of Visa AI assistants can change the paradigm of interaction between consumers and financial services – from the traditional interface to “dialog banking” where payment is the result of a regular conversation.
Widespread implementation is expected in 2026. This initiative has the potential to transform e-commerce by making shopping more convenient and efficient, especially for routine or complex tasks such as travel planning.
Visa emphasizes that users retain full control over their finances by setting clear limits and conditions for AI assistants. This helps to ensure security and trust in new technologies in the field of digital payments.
This initiative of Visa can be a significant step in the development of e-commerce, providing users with new opportunities for automating and personalizing purchases.
