The public organization Wikimedia Ukraine has published a list of the most visited articles on the Ukrainian Wikipedia for the year. The list’s nominees are described on the organization’s Facebook page, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

The article about Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, became the leader of reader interest, having been viewed more than 1.1 million times. It is followed by an article about Ukraine with over a million views, and the third place was taken by an article about Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk with over 730 thousand views.

Articles about prominent Ukrainians, such as Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka and Stepan Bandera, who are among the most popular historical figures, remain consistently popular. In addition, users actively read about contemporary Ukrainian figures: Iryna Farion, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, singer Klavdia Petrivna, and writer Lina Kostenko.

The number of articles on history has not decreased either: Ukrainians continue to be interested in the events of the Volyn tragedy, the Second and First World Wars, and Kyivan Rus. In particular, an article about Sudzha (a town in the Kursk region) received more than 320 thousand views, which is many times the number of its residents.

Military topics are also traditionally of great interest to Ukrainian readers. Articles about the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as brigades and military units, such as the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade and the Azov Brigade of the National Guard, were particularly popular with them. Articles about the F-16 Fighting Falcon, military ranks, and the territorial recruitment center received considerable attention.

In the area of movies and TV series, Ukrainian films attracted the most attention, including 20 Days in Mariupol, Mavka. The Forest Song, The Witch of Konotop, and To Catch a Kaidash. Among foreign films and shows, users paid attention to Harry Potter, The Bridgertons, and Game of Thrones.

It is noteworthy that for the first time in a decade and a half, an article about a contemporary, Oleksandr Syrsky, came out on top in terms of readership. Most often, the first two places were occupied by articles about Ukraine and Taras Shevchenko; in 2022, the first place was taken by an article about the Russian invasion of that year, and in 2019, an article about the transition of church communities to the OCU.

Mykola Kozlenko, deputy chairman of the board of Wikimedia Ukraine, commented on the results: “This rating clearly shows what Ukrainian society was interested in in 2024. Military topics remain consistently in the top, along with traditional topics such as Kyivan Rus, the Ukrainian anthem, and Lviv.”
