Ukrainian swimmer Andriy Govorov has announced the end of his Olympic career. The athlete announced this on his Instagram page, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Govorov announced his retirement a month after he announced his intention to take part in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The reason for this was a number of changes in the Olympic program, including the addition of the 50-meter butterfly, which is the Ukrainian’s crown jewel.
However, the Ukrainian will not participate in the selection for the 2028 Olympic Games. He noted that although competing in Los Angeles was a dream for him, “new plans have come into being.”
“It was not an easy decision. It was a journey, a sacrifice and a calling. I thank everyone who was a part of it. I thought about it for a long time, putting everything that was important to me on the scales. Competing in Los Angeles was my dream. But life had other plans,” Govorov said in a statement.
At the same time, Govorov emphasized that he was ending his Olympic career. He did not specify whether the swimmer would compete in other events.
It should be noted that Govorov participated in the 2012 Olympic Games in London and in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro in the 50m freestyle.
