The situation in the power system has been gradually improving since the most intense shelling on 26 August. Thanks to the efforts of the energy sector, the deficit has decreased and the duration of outage schedules has been significantly reduced. However, restoration works are still ongoing and the situation remains difficult. Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko told journalists, according to Komersant ukrainskyi
“Restoration work after the last attack is still ongoing. However, the situation has improved significantly. The power deficit in the system has decreased, and the outage schedules have become less stringent. In the coming days, the situation will improve, but it will depend on whether there will be new massive attacks or not,” the minister said.
According to him, the enemy attacks energy facilities almost every day. And the attack on 26 August was the most massive on record.
The Energy Minister refrained from making any specific predictions about the situation with the blackouts due to the constant threat of repeated massive attacks.
“I assure you that power engineers and all relevant services are working day and night. There is a clear plan and schedule of work that we are following. I am convinced that each of us is already feeling the results of this work. However, another attack could lead to serious problems again at any time,” said German Galushchenko.
It should be noted that 26 August was one of the most massive attacks on the energy infrastructure. There may be severe restrictions on electricity consumption for 1-2 weeks until the distribution systems are restored.
As reported by , this year Energoatom is carrying out scheduled repairs at 8 power units of Rivne, South Ukraine and Khmelnytsky NPPs. The head of the company, Petro Kotin, said that the repairs are being carried out ahead of schedule.

Situation in the Ukrainian energy sector
on 29 March 2024, Russia resumed its attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector, carrying out the most massive shelling in the entire period of the full-scale war. In particular, DniproHES and other Ukrainian energy facilities were hit. Since then, Russia has been regularly shelling Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
For example, the Russians destroyed the Trypillia and Zmiiv thermal power plants, causing Centrenergo to lose 100% of its generation. Also, 5 of DTEK’s 6 thermal power plants were severely damaged.
After that, power outages started again in Ukraine, Ukrenergo introduced blackout schedules and the government raised electricity tariffs by 60% at once.
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to build two new units at the Khmelnytsky NPP and has already received the approval of the relevant parliamentary committee. The Razumkov Centre has criticised these plans, but some experts believe that only traitors or scoundrels are against the construction of nuclear power plants today.
