Ukrainian biathlete’s tears of joy: personal records are different

olena Gorodna, a 20-year-old Ukrainian biathlete, has set new personal records and burst into tears in front of TV cameras, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
In the 12.5 km individual race at the World Cup in Pokljuka, the Ukrainian took 13th place and, moreover, closed all 20 targets at the firing lines. Both figures are absolute records for the Ukrainian athlete. Previously, she had never managed to hit all 20 targets in an official competition. Horodna has also never ranked higher than 49th in the World Cup. So the athlete’s progress is incredible.
Even the International Biathlon Union did not ignore such achievements. So the tears of joy of the Ukrainian athlete were seen all over the world.
After her new personal achievements, the athlete is now 66th in the overall World Cup standings with 28 points.

Olena Gorodna: profile
Olena Gorodna is a 20-year-old athlete from the Lviv region. Her international career began in 2020, and her first appearance at the adult level took place at the World Cup in Otepiai in March 2022. During the 2023/24 season, she mostly participated in IBU Cup competitions, although she also had three starts at the World Cup level. The highest achievement of the athlete among adults to date was 23rd place in the pursuit race at the European Championships 2024.
At the 2023 IBU World Junior Biathlon Championships, she won a bronze medal in the mixed race (boys and girls).
She is fluent in English. She is not married.
During competitions, she uses an Anschutz rifle, Fischer skis, Roeckl gloves, Julbo goggles, Swix ski poles, and a Craft suit.
